Who built this
Hi, I’m Asif Iqbal — a developer focused on building practical tools that solve real-world problems.
I’m not a full-time freelancer. I built SoloHourly after noticing a common issue: most freelancers don’t undercharge because of lack of skill — they undercharge because they don’t have a clear way to calculate what they actually need to earn.
Why SoloHourly exists
Most pricing advice online is vague:
“Charge what you’re worth”
“Look at market rates”
That doesn’t help when you need a real number. SoloHourly was built to answer a simple question: What should I charge to cover my costs, time, and profit — realistically?
How the calculators work
The tools on this site are based on practical pricing logic used by freelancers and small businesses:
- Monthly expense coverage (living + business costs)
- Billable vs non-billable hours
- Desired profit margin
- Workload assumptions
These inputs are combined to generate:
- A sustainable hourly rate
- A realistic project price
The goal is not to guess — it’s to calculate. The calculations are based on common freelance pricing frameworks, with optional market rate references to keep results grounded in real-world ranges.
What this is (and isn’t)
SoloHourly is designed to give you a clear starting point for pricing your work.
It is not:
- Financial advice
- A fixed “correct” rate
- A replacement for market research
Your final rate should always reflect your skills, niche, and demand.
Current scope and progress
Currently live: 280+ profession and country rate combinations across 20 professions and 14 countries.
In progress: incorporating real usage data to show how calculated rates compare to what freelancers actually charge.
